80s80s NDW is the radio for fans of Neue Deutsche Welle. Neue Deutsche Welle was a German-language variant of punk and new wave that reached its peak in the 80s. The 'wave' derives from the then very popular 'New Wave'. However, NDW is not just German 'New Wave' music. It began with the band Deutsch Amerikanischen Freundschaft (DAF), which was already described as NDW in 1980. This was followed by bands like Fehlfarben and Extrabreit. While the early years were considered less commercial, NDW became mainstream by the mid-80s. Nevertheless, the stars of this era, such as Hubert Kah and Markus, always maintained an ironic distance from commercialization by the music industry. A very typical example of this attitude is the band Trio. This is what makes NDW music still entertaining and cool today.
