“Liebe” was written in capital letters in the 80s. Already in 1980, the term New Romantic was on everyone's lips. New Romantic was a central part of the “New Wave.” The video Ashes to Ashes by David Bowie, released in 1980, is said to have been a catalyst for romantic fashion. Soon, many bands followed David Bowie's example: flashy but also romantically playful makeup. New Romantics included Visage, Ultravox, Culture Club, Duran Duran, Adam & The Ants, The Human League, and Spandau Ballet. These bands unabashedly showed their emotional and romantic side. An attitude that was strongly condemned by the punks of the 70s. Towards the end of the 80s, these romanticizing songs were replaced by commercial ballads.
